The Philatelic Library Hamburg eV is a special library that deals with philately and postal history . The library is as a private club organized, and stocks are publicly available.

history

The library was created by amalgamating the holdings of several small collections from Hamburg stamp associations. It has been organized as an association since it was founded in 1970 and is run by members and volunteers. After 1991 a full-time librarian was also employed as library manager.

Since it was founded, the library has had to move rooms several times, as its holdings have grown rapidly; the last move took place in 2000. At the turn of the year from 2014 to 2015, it became known that the grant from the " Foundation for the Promotion of Philately and Postal History " to the amount of 27,000 euros per year to the library would be canceled, thus the continued operation of this facility was only guaranteed for another six months. Towards the end of May 2015 it was announced that the library had been saved. The library moved to a new location at Basedowstraße 12 in Hamburg by September 2015.

Duration

In addition to the general stamp catalogs (e.g. Michel catalogs , Scott , Yvert et Tellier ), the holdings include special literature on all areas and motifs, specialist journals and the publications of the philatelic working groups. In 2017, the inventory comprised 18,991 books and 6,376 volumes with various types of journals, with a total of 25,366 media units.

use

With the exception of the reference inventory, users can borrow on-site and interlibrary loan from other libraries; Registered members of the Association of German Philatelists also enjoy the privileged option of direct interlibrary loan.
