Philipp Barthels (entrepreneur, 1794)

Philipp Barthels (born March 7, 1794 in Barmen ; † August 15, 1874 there ) was a German textile manufacturer.

Life

As the son of Johann Matthias Barthels (1754–1829) from Barmer and Beatrix Barthels born in Krefeld. Feldhoff (1759–?) Was born to Barthels in 1794. Barthels had a younger brother, Carl Barthels (1799–1866).

In 1829 he founded the Barthels-Feldhoff textile factory , a factory for cotton knitting and sewing threads, which still existed as a family business in the 2010s on Garnstrasse in Wuppertal-Barmen. Carl Barthels, who was also an alderman for the city of Barmen, was later also a partner in this company. Barthels lived in the Barthels house on Berliner Strasse from around 1820 .

Barthels died in 1874, his tomb in the Evangelical Reformed cemetery in Barmen Bartholomäusstrasse has been preserved. Barthels is called "one of the main benefactors of the community". "As a church master and in various commissions, he has repeatedly led parish affairs, and his name is held in high esteem in external and internal missions."

Barthels married Simonette Feldhoff (1809–1871) on September 20, 1827, and they had a son, Philipp Barthels junior. (1838-1906).
