family

He was the son of Count Wolrad IV von Waldeck-Eisenberg and his wife Anna von Baden-Durlach , heiress of the Cuylenburg rule in what is now the Netherlands . He came from the Waldeck family . He himself married Countess Maria Magdalena von Nassau-Siegen in Cuylenburg in 1639 . With this he had three children, including his successor Heinrich Wolrad . Another son, Florent Wilhelm, died as a child. The daughter Amalia Katharina became Countess of Erbach-Erbach through marriage .

Life

Philipp Dietrich received Kinzweiler , Engeldorf , Frechen and Bachem in the Eifel from his mother's inheritance claim . He made various trips to France and Italy and was in the Dutch military for a while.

In 1639 Count Florence von Pallandt , the owner of the dominions of Culemborg, Werth, Wittem and Pallant, died. Philipp Dietrich inherited these properties through his mother. In 1640 he also took control of the county of Waldeck-Eisenberg. He resided partly at Eisenberg Castle , partly in Cuylenburg. Lengthy legal disputes arose over parts of the possessions in the Eifel. Finally the Waldeck claims were settled.

Remarks

  1. The castle had been devastated during the Thirty Years' War and was only restored to the point where it was habitable by Philipp Dietrich.
