Philipp Filtzinger
Philipp Filtzinger (born January 19, 1925 in Mainz-Mombach ; † June 12, 2006 in Tübingen ) was a German archaeologist.
He did his doctorate in prehistory with Kurt Bittel in Tübingen on the Roman Danube Limes . After an employment at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn from 1964 to 1968 he came to the Württembergisches Landesmuseum in Stuttgart , where he represented Roman provincial archeology. He was instrumental in setting up the Limes Museum in Aalen .
Filtzinger's research focus was on Roman provincial archeology. He made particular contributions to the introduction of aerial archeology . He made his first attempts in 1953 for his dissertation with a tethered balloon.
In 1991 he was awarded the title of honorary professor .
