Johann Philipp Mayer (born January 1, 1804 in Nuremberg , † January 7, 1868 in Gera ) was a German teacher and politician.

Life

Mayer was the son of the beer keeper and wine master in Nuremberg, Johann Peter Mayer and his wife Anna Jakobina Huper. Mayer, who was an Evangelical Lutheran denomination, married Fanny Weber (born February 11, 1803 in Gera; † December 19, 1869 there), the daughter of the businessman and factory owner Johann Friedrich Ernst Weber in Gera , on September 23, 1829 in Köstritz .

Mayer attended grammar school in Nuremberg and studied theology and philosophy in Erlangen from 1821 to 1825. In 1827 he was promoted to Dr. phil is doing his doctorate. From 1826 he was first administrator and, after the examination for the higher school teaching post, royal Bavarian study teacher at the grammar school in Nuremberg. In 1833 he became prorector and professor of the tertia at the princely high school Rutheneum in Gera. In 1840 he became professor eloquentia and full professor at the secondary school with the assurance of a successor in the directorate. In 1850 he acquired citizenship in Gera. In 1858 he received the character of a school council. From September 29 to November 19, 1867 he was director of the Rutheneum high school and then retired from service due to illness.

After the March Revolution, he applied for a seat in the Frankfurt National Assembly for the moderates, but was unable to prevail. From 1848 to 1849 he was a member of the constituent state parliament Reuss younger line . There he was President of the State Parliament from October 4, 1848 to December 21, 1849. In 1850 he was a member of the state house of the Erfurt Union Parliament . He was elected by the state parliament on the proposal of the princely government.

In 1843 he was promoted to Dr. theol. appointed hc. In 1863 he received the princely civil cross of honor.
