Philipp Meuser

Philipp Meuser (born August 24, 1969 in Hilden ) is a German architect , publisher and university professor .

Life

Philipp Meuser studied architecture at the Technical University of Berlin from 1991 to 1995 . He was a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the promotion of young journalists. After internships at WDR in Cologne and at Bauwelt , he worked as a freelance editor in the features section of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung from 1995 to 1996 . He completed an extra-occupational postgraduate degree in the history and theory of architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich . Doctorate with a research thesis on Soviet housing construction between Stalin and Glasnost. From 1996 to 2001, Philipp Meuser was political advisor to the Senator for Urban Development within the framework of the Stadtforum Berlin. In 2000 he was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA). Meuser has been a member of the Deutscher Werkbund since 2014. Teaching activities in Russia , Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan . Since 2018 Meuser has held an honorary professorship at the OM Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv in Ukraine . Curatorial activity for the city of Cologne (perspectives on the right bank of the Rhine, 2011) and the German Architecture Museum (architecture and design for Soviet space travel, 2015). Research assignment from the Federal Foreign Office on the subject of material security for German missions abroad (2013). His research focus is also on Soviet space travel. Together with his wife Natascha Meuser , he founded the Meuser Architects office in Berlin , which specializes in the planning and project management of specially protected buildings at home and abroad. Since 2004 the office has taken on international planning and construction projects, especially for embassies in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and West Africa, since 2012 with a focus on crisis regions (including Libya, Mali and Yemen). He also founded the architecture publishing house DOM publishers in 2005 together with Natascha Meuser . His specialty are publications on architecture in regions that are not the focus of public discussion, in particular on the history of building in the area of ​​the former Soviet Union , or the architecture of Africa and the Muslim world. The architecture guide on Pyongyang attracted particular attention.

Awards

In 2017 Philipp Meuser received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for cultural and scientific exchange with the successor states of the Soviet Union (handed out in 2018).
