Philipp Wilhelm of Biela

Philipp Wilhelm von Biela († 1773 ) was an imperial major general in the service of the House of Austria .

Life

Philipp Wilhelm von Biela was one of the four sons of the heir and feudal lord and manorial estate owner Heimart Wilhelm von Biela auf Auleben and Berga († 1733) and came from the Thuringian noble family von Biela . Like many of his family members, he embarked on a military career. He was the first representative of his Protestant family to enter the service of the Habsburg and thus Catholic emperor . In 1758 he was appointed Imperial General Field Sergeant.

In the Battle of Liegnitz (1760) he was a member of the Austrian General Staff and was taken prisoner by Prussia .

In 1763 and 1767 he was named major general. After his three siblings had settled financially, he renounced his inheritance claims to his father's manor in the Goldene Aue and stayed in the Austrian Empire , where he died in 1773.
