Philippe Canot

Philippe Canot or Caneau (* 1715 ; † 1783 in Paris ) was a French draftsman and painter of the Rococo .

Life

Little is known about Philippe Canot, known as Caneau. He was the younger brother of the engraver Pierre-Charles Canot . The year of birth is assumed to be 1715. From the 1740s he painted and drew genre scenes in the style of Jean Siméon Chardin . He was a member of the Académie de Saint-Luc . His main job was as a decorator in the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi , the festivities office of the court. His works, scenes from family life and gallants, were engraved by Jacques-Philippe Le Bas , Charles Eisen and Jean-Joseph Balechou , anonymously depending on the depiction. Philippe Canot died in Paris in 1783.
