biography

Philippe Karl initially studied medicine, but from 1968 turned to riding. In the following years he studied at the Center d`Enseignement Zootechnique in Rambouillet and at the French state stud Haras du Pin . He then headed the riding department of the Center d`Enseignement Zootechnique until 1979 , where he was responsible for the professional training of prospective professional riders . He himself also competed in horse shows.

In 1980 his first book on horsemanship was published. In 1985 he was appointed to the state riding school of the Ecole nationale d'Equitation in Saumur, where he is a rider for the Cadre Noir. Here he occupied himself extensively with the high school and took part in various equestrian demonstrations throughout Europe.

In 1998 Karl left the Cadre Noir. Through a course organized by Bea Borelle in October 1998 in Schneverdingen / Teichhof, he became very well known on German soil and was able to meet an immediate demand. Ambitious students repeatedly asked him to start teacher training or further education. The first courses started in 2004, initially on German soil. Known above all for the translation of his last book "Irrwege der moderne Dressur", meanwhile in 7 languages (German, French, English, Spanish, Czech, Italian, Hungarian), Karl became known worldwide and was able to increase the number of training courses with the help of Master Teacher appointed to him, so that the École de Légèreté is represented on all five continents with open and training courses. Karl's remarks and critical remarks on the modern working and training methods of horse training are definitely heard, as he understands how to scientifically substantiate his statements. He also expanded the École de Légèreté, in which suitable riders can be trained to be teachers of this riding and working method with the horse. The concept of the school of Légèreté is protected by patent.

Philippe Karl is married.

Controversy

In 2009 there was the so-called "Légèreté dispute", an exchange between Philippe Karl and the veterinarian Gerd Heuschmann about the hotly debated topic of the roll cure . Although they were in agreement on the matter, the two experts disagreed on the systematic foundation in the training of horses. The dispute was received and discussed differently in the media.
