Philippe Maioris

Philippe Maioris (* around 1500 in Cambrai , † 1540 in London ) was minstrel and ambassador of Mary of Hungary to Henry VIII of England .

Life

Philippe Maioris was doyen of Cambray and first almoner of Maria of Hungary, the governor of the Spanish Netherlands . Mary of Hungary was interested in maintaining diplomatic relations with Henry VIII, which contradicted his church ostracism. She appointed Philip Maioris her ambassador to Henry VIII. On April 23, 1539, he sailed to Dover . His first surviving letter from London is dated April 28, 1539. He wrote that he had been in England for two months.

The French Ambassador to the Court of St James’s , Charles de Marillac, reported on September 5, 1540 that Philip Maioris was suffering from great fièvre in London .
