Philodromus dispar is a species of spider from the family of running spiders (Philodromidae). The species is widespread and quite common in Central Europe. The specific epithet dispar (Latin different) refers to the different appearance of the two sexes.
description
Both sexes reach a body length of 4 to 5 mm, making the species one of the medium-sized native walking spiders. Like many walking spiders, the species shows a clear sexual dimorphism in terms of color and drawing. Females are generally yellow-brown, the sides of the front body ( prosoma ) and rear body ( opisthosoma ) are light yellow to white. The opisthosoma has a dark margin on the upper side and shows a dark arrow drawing in the middle in front. The legs are yellowish gray and finely dotted with dark spots.
In the male, the basic color of the body is very dark, often almost black. The sides of the body are light as in the female, and the legs are colored as in the female.
distribution and habitat
Philodromus dispar inhabits the western and central area of the Palearctic from Ireland and Portugal to central Siberia . In north-south direction, the distribution extends from Scandinavia to central Italy , to Greece and in the east to south to Iran . The distribution area includes the temperate to Mediterranean zone. The species is only absent in Europe on Iceland . The species is widespread in Germany.
The species lives in sunny areas that are not too humid deciduous and coniferous forests and lives there mainly on trunks and in the treetops. Sexually mature animals can be found in spring and summer.
Danger
The species is widespread and medium abundant in suitable habitats. In Germany it is classified as "safe" in the Red List .
