Phoenicocoris obscurellus is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs become 2.5 to 3.6 millimeters long. They are dark in color and covered with pale hairs. The spurs of the splints ( tibia ) are long and do not arise from black points. The hemielytric cuneus is black. One can easily confuse the species with Plesiodema pinetella .

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed in Europe east to Siberia and Mongolia. But it is missing in parts of southern Europe. In Germany it occurs almost everywhere. It is restricted to the flatlands in the north, and can also be found in higher altitudes in the south. It is not uncommon in Germany and more common in the north in some places. It is only found sporadically in Austria, but is probably more widespread.

Way of life

The bugs live on Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ), at higher altitudes also on mountain pine ( Pinus mugo ) and rarely on common spruce ( Picea abies ) or common juniper ( Juniperus communis ). Like the other species of their genus, they primarily suckle the pollen sacs of the plants. The adult bugs can be seen from early June to late August.
