Epiphyllum crenatum is a species of plant in the genus Epiphyllum from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet crenatum means '(Latin crenatus) notched'.
description
Epiphyllum crenatum grows upright, is semi-epiphytic and reaches heights of growth of up to one meter. Their woody main shoots are cylindrical or triangular. The leaf-like, thick-fleshed side shoots notched at the edges ( crenatus, Middle Latin for “notched”) are gray-green, up to 60 centimeters long and between 4 and 10 centimeters wide. The areoles do not have thorns .
The fragrant flowers open at night and stay open until the next morning. They are 20 to 29 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 10 to 20 centimeters. The outer bracts are greenish or slightly pinkish yellow, the inner bracts are creamy white.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Epiphyllum crenatum is common in Mexico , Guatemala , Honduras, and El Salvador . The first description as Cereus crenatus was published by John Lindley in 1844 . George Don placed the species in the genus Epiphyllum in 1855 .
A nomenclature synonym is Phyllocactus crenatus (Lindl.) Lem. (1845).

The shoots of Epiphyllum crenatum var. Kimnachii are only 6 to 10 centimeters wide and lobate crookedly. The variety is named after Myron William Kimnach (* 1922).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
