biography

After graduating from high school in 1983 at the Wolfgang-Ernst-Gymnasium in Büdingen , Pia Linz studied painting and graphics at the Städelschule in Frankfurt with Thomas Bayrle , Johann Georg Geyger , Felix Droese and Christa Näher . She became a master student of Christa Näher.

Pia Linz is a member of the German Association of Artists . It is represented by Galerie Fahnemann, Berlin. Since 2016 she has been a professor of drawing in the painting department at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin . Her artistic focus is on drawing and painting.

Pia Linz deals with the phenomenon of the individual perception of the world and its implementation in the picture. Two fundamentally different visualization concepts of places have emerged, but they have in common the tendency to be analytical and subjective at the same time and to connect the external with the internal world.

For example, she develops the three-dimensional “hood images” and “case engravings” from the inside from a fixed point of view, from which she captures the surroundings with a perspective view.

The “local images” of the 1980s and the “location-related drawing projects”, on the other hand, are close to a cartographic perspective. First she measures the place with footsteps and works out a plan of the area. Immediately on site, with the help of a portable drawing board , she meticulously notes her observations in this plan. While the countless pedestrian perspectives merge into a kind of bird's eye view due to their comparative timings in the drawing , the place is transformed into a free-floating monad.
