The Pic de Nore is with a height of 1211  m , the highest peak in the mountain group Montagne Noire , a southern branch of the central massif . It is located in the commune of Pradelles-Cabardès in the Aude department in southern France . The Arnette and Clamoux rivers have their source on its slopes , making it part of the European watershed between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean .

The D87 leads over the summit from Pradelles-Cabardès to Mazamet . Cycle races are held regularly on the road over the mountain. There is a radio station right on the summit .

The French long-distance hiking trail GR 36 leads directly over the summit.
