Pico Truncado is a city in southern Argentina . It is located in the Deseado department in the northeast of the Santa Cruz province and has about 15,000 inhabitants. This makes it the third largest city in the sparsely populated province.

geography

The city lies 80 kilometers west of the Atlantic coast of the Golfo San Jorge on the Patagonian Meseta. The climate is cool temperate , dry and windy, with relatively cool summers and cold winters.

economy

Pico Truncado is the center of an area where oil and gas are produced. It is known as the "Capital of Natural Gas" in Argentina. Furthermore, the city is the service center for several small towns and villages in the area.

tourism

The city itself and the surrounding area are comparatively unattractive for tourists, but the most famous folklore festival in Patagonia, the Festival Patagónico de Folklore , takes place in Pico Truncado .
