The Pierce Peak is a 1,790 m high mountain in the West Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . In the Patuxent Range of the Pensacola Mountains, it rises 3 km south of the Sullivan Peaks on the northeastern edge of the Mackin Table .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from the years 1956 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after the American psychiatrist Chester Pierce (* 1927), who from 1966 to 1967 together with the US sleep doctor Jay Talmadge Shurley (1917-2004) had examined the psychophysiology in sleep and wakefulness of scientists before, during and after their stay at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station .
