Piero Rollo (born February 9, 1927 in Cagliari , Sardinia , † June 2, 2001 ) was an Italian boxer . He was European bantamweight professional boxer champion .

Career

Piero Rollo lived in Cagliari, Sardinia, and started boxing there as a teenager. He was a very strong and athletically trained boxer. In 1950 he became a professional boxer and had a total of 81 fights by the end of his career. In his day there were many excellent professional boxers in Italy fighting in his weight class. Nevertheless, Piero Rolli managed to become Italian and European champions in his career. His attempt to become world champion in Rio de Janeiro in 1961 in the fight against the Brazilian title holder Éder Jofre , however, did not succeed because the referee had to take him out of the ring in the 9th round, unable to defend himself. His fights against his compatriot Mario D'Agata and the French Alphonse Halimi are also legendary .

After retiring from his career in 1964, he lived in Cagliari, most recently in an economically modest situation.
