Piero del Pollaiuolo , actually Piero di Jacopo d'Antonio Benci (* 1443 in Florence , † 1496 in Rome ) was an Italian painter and probably also a sculptor and goldsmith.

Life

Piero del Pollaiuolo was a younger brother of Antonio del Pollaiuolo from whom he was probably also trained. As early as 1460 he was working with his brother on three Hercules pictures in the Palazzo Medici. He worked in his brother Antonio's workshop, where he specialized in painting. Piero worked mainly in Florence. A stay in San Gimignano is documented . From around 1489 he worked in Rome.

In many of his pictures, Antonio's collaboration is suspected. Numerous pictures, which until recently were considered Antonio's works, are now attributed to Piero himself. Piero del Pollaiuolo is buried with his brother Antonio in a double grave in the Roman church of San Pietro in Vincoli .
