Pierre-Marie Théas
Pierre-Marie Théas (born September 14, 1894 in Barzun , Département Pyrénées-Atlantiques , † April 3, 1977 ) was Bishop of Montauban and Tarbes and Lourdes .
Life
Théas was ordained a priest on September 26, 1920. In 1940 he was made Bishop of Montauban and on October 3 of the same year he was ordained bishop by Edmond Vansteenberghe . In 1947 he was appointed bishop of Lourdes and Tarbes and retired in 1970 as titular bishop of Sanctus Germanus .
During the Second World War , he actively campaigned against the deportation of Jews from France in pastoral letters and was therefore later given the honorary title of Righteous Among the Nations . He was temporarily arrested by the Gestapo and was in a concentration camp for a total of ten weeks .
He was a great advocate of the Pax Christi movement and Catholic social teaching .
During his tenure, the postmodern underground basilica Saint-Pie X was built in Lourdes by Pierre Vago , which can hold 25,000 people.
