Pierre César Alleene (born July 19, 1909 in Roubaix , † August 1, 1994 in Perpignan ) was a French weightlifter . He became European middleweight champion in 1933 and was an Olympian in 1936.

Career

Pierre Alleene began lifting weights as a teenager in Roubaix. He initially started for Union Sociétaire Roubaisienne and later moved to US Metro Paris . He was a specialist in one-armed snatch, an exercise that was still part of some competitions at the time. At the Olympic Games from 1928 to 1972 the competition consisted of the so-called "Olympic three-way fight (OD)", consisting of two-armed pushing, two-armed tearing and two-armed pushing. Also at the European Championships from 1929 onwards the Olympic three-way fight was raised, with one exception, namely the European Championships in Essen in 1933 . At the national level, one-armed exercises were still part of the competition program in various countries until 1950.

Pierre Alleene had matured into one of the best French middleweight lifters in 1931. He represented his country in this country for the first time at an international championship, the European Championship in Luxembourg . There he started in the middleweight division and achieved 307.5 kg in the Olympic three-way fight. With this performance he came in seventh place.

In 1932, Alleene already scored 322.5 kg (85-105-132.5) in the middleweight division at the French Olympic elimination in Roubaix. At the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles , however, his compatriot Roger François , the 1928 Olympic middleweight champion , represented the French colors.

In 1933 Pierre Alleene set a world record in one-armed snatch on the right with 91.5 kg. He then started at the European Championships that year in Essen. There was a pentathlon consisting of one-armed tearing on the left, one-armed tearing on the right, two-armed pushing, tearing and pushing to be played. In this pentathlon he achieved 497.5 kg (77.5-87.5-97.5-107.5-137.5) and was thus European champion ahead of the Olympic champion from Los Angeles, Rudolf Ismayr from Germany, who was 492, 5 kg (75-77.5-100-100-140) came. Alleene achieved this victory above all through his excellent performance in the one-armed tear on the right, in which he managed 10 kg more than Ismayr.

In 1933 and 1934 Pierre Alleene was also French middleweight champion. At the European Championships in Turin in 1934 , where the Olympic three-way battle was held again, he was not at the start. In December 1934, Alleene represented the French colors in an international battle against Austria . A four-way battle was fought there, consisting of one-armed snatch, one-armed pushing, two-armed snatching and two-armed pushing. Pierre Alleene achieved 395 kg (85-85-100-125) and was almost defeated by Karl Hipfinger , who came to 397.5 kg (75-90-97.5-135).

At the European Championships in 1935, which took place in Paris , Pierre Alleene was not at the start. In 1936, however, he started at the Olympic Games in Berlin . He achieved there in the middleweight division in the Olympic three-way fight 330 kg (90-105-135) and came in eighth. The winner was Khadr Sayed El Touni from Egypt with 387.5 kg (117.5-120-150) ahead of Rudolf Ismayr, who came in at 352.5 kg (107.5-102.5-142.5).

In 1937, for the first time since 1922, World Championships took place in Paris. Pierre Alleene started there in the middleweight division and achieved 332.5 kg (92.5-105-135) in the Olympic three-way fight. With this achievement he finished sixth. World champion was John Terpak from the United States with 352.5 kg (192.5-110-140).
