Pierre Billaud

Pierre Billaud (born May 21, 1970 in Agen , † November 11, 2001 in Dasht e-Qaleh , Takhar Province , northeast Afghanistan ) was a French radio journalist and reporter . He was killed in 2001 in northeast Afghanistan together with his French colleague Johanne Sutton and the German reporter Volker Handloik , who reported for stern . The Taliban had attacked the armored vehicle on which he and five other journalists from Europe and Australia were traveling along with the Northern Alliance commander Amer Bashir in the Kalakata Mountains.

Billaud began his journalistic career at Radio France . He then worked as a reporter for the French radio broadcaster RTL. He reported on conflicts in Algeria , Israel , Palestine , Bosnia-Herzegovina and from Kosovo . In a series of reports from Afghanistan he reported on the situation of women and girls in the country. Since his death, his family has been committed to the FemAid organization to improve the situation of women and children in Afghanistan.
