The work that established its reputation in literary history is its comprehensive account of the theater of the Greeks . The multivolume work Théâtre des Grecs contains complete translations of seven plays, summaries and analyzes of numerous other tragedies and comedies, as well as fundamental treatises on theater, the origin of tragedy and the relationship between ancient and modern theater ( Sur le théâtre grec ; Sur l'origine de la tragédie ; Sur le parallèle du théâtre ancien et du moderne ). Despite linguistic deficiencies in the translation and a narrow perspective, Brumoy's work deserves the credit of having made ancient authors, whose texts were difficult to access, accessible to a wider audience.

Brumoy's collective editions of his writings Recueil de diverses pièces en prose et en vers and the four-volume Œuvres diverses (Paris 1741) contain various treatises, three tragedies, two verse comedies that were performed at the Jesuit schools, and two poems in Latin, one on the Passion Christi , the other entitled La Verrerie . He also worked on the book Résolutions d'Espagne des Paters d'Orléans, also a member of the Jesuit order, and on the Histoire de Rienzi by Du Cerceau .
