Pierre Clerdent
Pierre Jean Joseph Clerdent (born April 29, 1909 in Liège , † June 11, 2006 in Chaudfontaine ) was a Belgian politician and governor of the province of Liège .
Life
After completing his doctorate in law , Clerdent was a lawyer at the Court of Appeal in Liège from 1934 to 1945 and an active resistance fighter against the German occupation forces. The 'Union démocratique belge' (UDB) party he co-founded was dissolved after the election defeat in 1946.
From 1945 to 1953 he was governor of the province of Luxembourg , then from 1953 to 1971 governor of the province of Liège. During this time he was also the founder of the Société Provinciale d'Industrialisation (SPI) and President of the Economic Council of Wallonia . After the end of his tenure, he was made Honorary Governor.
From 1981 to 1988, Clerdent was a senator and as such a defender of solidarity between Brussels and Wallonia. He also campaigned for the TGV high-speed train to stop at Liège station.
