Pierre Gailhard

Pierre "Pedro" Gailhard (born August 1, 1848 in Toulouse ; † October 12, 1918 in Paris ) was a French opera singer (bass) and theater director.

Life

Gailhard began his training in Toulouse and then studied at the Conservatoire de Paris , among others with Revial, Joseph-Antoine-Charles Couderc and Charles-François Duvernoy . He made his stage debut in 1867 at the Paris Opéra-Comique as Falstaff in Le songe d'une nuit d'été by Ambroise Thomas and stayed there until 1870. From 1871 he was engaged at the Paris Opera , of which he became director in 1884. He held this position with one interruption from 1891 to 1893 until 1908.

Gailhard has received a recording of the serenade by Valentin from Gounod's opera Margarethe from 1905. Gailhard's son was the composer André Gailhard .
