Pierre Gaspard-Huit

Jean Michel Pierre Gaspard-Huit (born November 29, 1917 in Libourne , Gironde department , † May 1, 2017 in Paris ) was a French film and television director and screenwriter .

Live and act

Gaspard-Huit learned his cinematic craft as an assistant to directors such as Julien Duvivier , René Clair and Christian-Jaque . In World War II, moved in, he got in 1940 for several years in German captivity. At the beginning of 1945 the Nazi director Hans Steinhoff brought him to Prague and made him his assistant director for the colored crime film Shiva and the Gallows Flower . After a large part of the film crew had left Prague, which had become unsafe for German citizens in March of the same year, Gaspard-Huit also returned home to France.

In Paris he continued his work as assistant director with Coïncidences in 1946. Gaspard-Huit was allowed to work as an assistant director for the first time in the Belgian film Passeurs d'or made in 1948 . In 1954 he wrote the screenplay for the crime thriller Gangster von Paris . Immediately afterwards, Pierre Gaspard-Huit made his debut as the sole director of a full-length feature film, after several attempts to direct short and documentary films. His feature film oeuvre, which spanned just over ten years, consistently includes entertainment productions without major artistic ambitions, including productions with Brigitte Bardot (The Bride Was Far Too Beautiful) , Jean Marais (Fracass, the cheeky cavalier) and Anna Karina (Sheherazade) . Pierre Gaspard-Huit has also repeatedly filmed with German-speaking film artists, including Peter van Eyck , Erika Remberg , Paul Hubschmid , Hildegard Knef and Romy Schneider , who played the title role in the Liebelei version Christine under his direction .

Since the mid-1960s, Pierre Gaspard-Huit focused on directing television films, including several adventure series. His Christmas 1969 as a ZDF four-part leather stocking film with Hellmut Lange in the title role was particularly successful . At the same time, he also continued to write scripts for other directors' television productions. In 1983 Gaspard-Huit ended his artistic activities as a screenwriter for the Franco-German four-part television series Der Mann von Suez, which was made by colleague Christian-Jaque .
