Pierre Gensous

Pierre Gensous (born July 25, 1925 in Mont-de-Marsan , Landes ; died December 2, 2017 ) was a French trade unionist and politician . From 1969 to 1978 he was General Secretary of the World Trade Union Confederation (WGB).

Life

Gensous, the son of a worker, joined the Confédération générale du travail (CGT) as a young metal worker . He initially worked in various functions for the CGT at the level of the department . In 1954 he was elected Secretary of the Fédération des travailleurs de la métallurgie (Metalworkers Association) in the CGT.

From 1959 to 1961 Gensous was chairman of the International Federation of Metalworking and Mechanical Engineering Unions in the WGB. In 1964 he was elected General Secretary of this association.

In October 1965 the VI elected World Trade Union Congress in Warsaw Gensous as deputy general secretary of the WGB. At the VII World Trade Union Congress in Budapest in October 1969 he was elected General Secretary of the WGB, which he remained until April 1978.

From 1978 to 1985 Gensous belonged to the Bureau confédéral, the highest body of the CGT. From 1985 Gensous was head of the institute «Louis Saillant» / Center d'étude, de recherche et de coopération internationale (ILS-CERCI, Center for Studies, Research and International Cooperation) of the CGT.

From 1970 Gensous was a candidate, from 1972 to 1979 a member of the Central Committee of the French Communist Party .
