Pierre Jonckheer

Pierre Jonckheer (born May 10, 1951 in Namur ) is a Belgian politician for the Ecolo party . He has also been Co-President of the Green European Foundation (GEF) in Brussels since 2008 , and Professor of European Affairs at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL). From 1999 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Jonckheer first studied at the University of Liege and then at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) Economics and graduated in 1974 with the Maîtrise from. From 1975 to 1981 he was a lecturer at UCL and from 1981 to 1985 he worked as a freelance scientist. From 1986 to 1989 he was a researcher and then from 1989 to 1991 Director of the European Social Observatory in Brussels . For the Ecolo party, which Jonckheer had joined in 1986, he sat in the Senate from 1991 to 1999.

In 1999 Jonckheer was elected to the European Parliament and was confirmed in office as the top candidate of the Ecolo party in the 2004 European elections . He was a member of the Group of the Greens / European Free Alliance and the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Delegation for relations with the United States. After the European elections in 2009 , Jonckheer left the European Parliament.

At this point in time Jonckheer had already been working as President of the Green European Foundation (GEF) in Brussels for a year; a position he still holds today. He is also professor of European affairs at UCL.
