Controversy
According to an internal report by the ethics department of UNRWA, which was leaked to the media in summer 2019, current and former members of the top management of UNRWA, and especially Pierre Krähenbühl, are accused of various misconduct. An investigation by the office for internal supervisory services had been initiated after a statement by Krähenbühl.
The internal investigation report was also leaked to the AFP news agency . New allegations are directed primarily against a small number of foreign executives, including against Krähenbühl himself. Switzerland has suspended its payments until the allegations have been clarified by UNRWA. This is a symbolic step in that the contribution for 2019 has already been transferred and the UNRWA report should be available by 2020.
