Mortefon started windsurfing when he was eleven. In 2004 he made his debut in the Windsurf World Cup at a Super-X event in Leucate . However, he did not begin to take part regularly in competitions until the 2008 season . After never being able to classify himself as 12th place before, he made his breakthrough in 2014 with his first podium and his first victory. A year later he missed the world title in slalom despite the same number of points as series winner Antoine Albeau only because of the lower number of event victories. In the following years he was always able to classify himself in the top 3 of the World Cup. In the 2019 season he was able to secure the longed-for world championship title with three event victories and two second places.
