Pierre Ndaye Mulamba (born November 4, 1948 in Luluabourg , Belgian Congo ; † January 26, 2019 in Johannesburg , South Africa ) was a Congolese football player who mainly played as a striker .
Career
In the 1970s he played for the AS Bantous from Mbuji-Mayi and the AS Vita Club, among others . Mulumba won the African Cup of Champions Clubs with the club from Kinshasa in the winter of 1973 .
Mulumba's first international match he played during qualifying for the 1974 World Cup for Zaire against Morocco , when he was substituted on in the second half and scored 1-0 (final score 3-0). In 1974 he played for Zaire in the 1974 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and the 1974 World Cup in Germany . At the African Cup of Nations he scored all 9 goals for his country and took the title with him. He was also voted the tournament's best player.
At the 1974 World Cup in Germany, he was the captain of the team. After the 2-0 defeat in the opening match against Scotland , the African team was already concerned with avoiding an early elimination on matchday two . In the 9-0 win against Yugoslavia , Mulumba was sent off after 23 minutes. The captain, who died in 2019, was not on the pitch in the third game against Brazil (0: 3), which was the point-free and goalless final sign of Zaires in the tournament.
