Pierre Skawinski

Pierre Skawinski (born December 23, 1912 in Bordeaux , † March 20, 2009 in Biarritz ) was a French athlete .

Skawinski won his first French championship title in the 400-meter run in 1933 , at the international student championships he took second place with the French 4-by-400-meter relay . In 1934, the first European Athletics Championships were held in Turin . With his personal best of 48.0 seconds, Skawinski took second place over 400 meters behind the German Adolf Metzner . The French relay with Robert Paul , Georges Guillez , Raymond Boisset and Skawinski won the silver medal behind the German relay with a French national record of 3: 15.6 minutes. In 1935 Skawinski received the gold medal with the French relay at the International Student Championships. In 1936 and 1937 Skawinski won again at the French championship. At the Olympic Games in 1936 he reached the semi-finals in an individual competition. In 1937 he won silver again with the relay at the International Student Championships. With a height of 1.85 meters, his competition weight was around 76 kilograms.

After completing his studies, Pierre Skawinski became a lawyer. From 1946 he was general secretary of the sports newspaper L'Équipe for many years .
