Peter Stebler

Peter Hermann Stebler or Pierre Armand Stebler (born May 7, 1927 in Zurich ; † September 15, 2010 in Küsnacht ) was a Swiss rower who was second in the 1948 Olympic team with helmsman .

Athletic career

The first European rowing championships after the Second World War were held in Lucerne in 1947 . In the eighth , the Italians won ahead of the Danes and the Swiss. Rudolf Reichling , Erich Schriever , Émile Knecht and Peter Stebler switched from the eighth in 1947 to the four with helmsman. With helmsman André Moccand , the Swiss won the 1948 Olympic Games in the preliminary, intermediate and semi-finals. In the final, the US rowers won ahead of the Swiss and Danes.

At the European Championships in 1951 , Stebler and Knecht competed in double sculls and won the title. The following year they were eliminated from the first round of hope runs at the Olympic Games . In 1953 Stebler won the European Championship title together with Erich Schriever, in 1954 they took second place behind the German boat.

The 1.89 m tall Stebler started for the Seeclub Zurich .
