Pierre de Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire ( 1700 - January 1, 1751 ) was a French bishop.

Life

Pierre de Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire was a son of François-Antoine Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire († 1735), Lord of Pavilions, and Anne du Puy de La Forest. Two more distant relatives were also bishops: André-Daniel de Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire in Tulle and Martial-Louis de Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire in Poitiers.

Intended for an ecclesiastical career and with a degree in theology from the Sorbonne, he was Canon of the Cathedral of Saint-Front de Périgueux, Grand Archdeacon and Vicar General of the Diocese of Périgueux , and Deputy Abbot of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens in Tourtoirac from 1730 until his death. Appointed Bishop of Tarbes by the king in 1740 , he was confirmed on December 19 and consecrated on March 5, 1741 by the Archbishop of Sens, Languet de Gergy .

It was his merit - according to Armand Jean - not to have allowed any innovations in his diocese. As a principled prelate, he tried to impose strict disciplinary rules on his clergy, which led the members of his chapter to take the matter to the Bordeaux Parliament. The king had to intervene to avoid the process and the bishop reversed his orders. He took part in the assembly of the church province Auch , which elected him a member of the clergy assembly of 1750. He died in Tarbes the following year and was buried in the cathedral. His younger brother (and vicar general) Marc-Antoine followed him as Commendatar Abbot of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens until his own death in 1774.
