Piet Eekman

Piet Eekman (* 1964 in Berlin ) is a Belgian filmmaker and author. Eekman became known, among other things, through his socially critical documentary films Reiche essen keine Hamburger and Das verlorene Schläfchen . His documentaries are shown in Germany on ARTE , 3sat and ZDF and are regularly repeated.

Life

Piet Eekman studied from 1983 to 1988 at the St. Lukas and INSAS film schools in Brussels . He then studied at the University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg until 1991 . Eekman is a graduate director. After working as a projectionist at the Brussels Film Museum for two years, he embarked on a career as a film producer and author. From 1996 to 2000 Eekman was a producer in the ZDF studio in Brussels. Since then he has been a freelance writer and journalist.

Rich people don't eat hamburgers

The 2004 documentary focuses on the current food situation in the United States . A large part of the population already suffers from new widespread diseases such as obesity and diabetes, triggered by the almost invariable consumption of fast food. As a counterpoint to this, Eekman introduces a well-known personality from the slow food movement, the American star chef Alice Waters . Based on her portrait, Eekman makes it clear that healthy eating in the USA is definitely a question of class affiliation and class awareness. The broadcast took place on ARTE and on ZDF and Phönix.

The lost nap

In this documentary from 2003, Piet Eekmann gets to the bottom of this matter and introduces four masters of their craft: the French chef Pierre Gagnaire, the German Dieter Müller , the Spaniard Ferran Adrià and the native Japanese Testuya Wakuda. The trail of child molesters - Dutroux and the dead witnesses

Documentation from 2001 about the process of the sex offender Marc Dutroux . After his arrest, at least 27 witnesses who tried to testify died. The responsible public prosecutor, Hubert Massa, died by suicide.
