Pieter van Geel

Petrus Leonardus Bastiaan Antonius (Pieter) van Geel (born April 8, 1951 in Valkenswaard ) is a Dutch politician ( CDA ) and was parliamentary group leader of his party in the States General from February 21, 2007 to June 10, 2010 .

Life

Van Geel grew up with four younger siblings, his father worked in the Hofnar cigar factory in Valkenswaard.

He studied urban planning at Radboud University in Nijmegen and received his diploma in 1974. After completing his studies, he was an urban planner for the municipality of Helmond , which is still van Geel's home today. In 1988 he became community secretary . From 1987 to 2002 van Geel was a member of the Provinciale Staten (provincial parliament) of North Brabant and from 1995 to 2002 also a member of the Gedeputeerde Staten (provincial government). From 2002 to 2003 Van Geel sat for the first time in the Second Chamber of the States General . At the same time, he was appointed State Secretary for the Environment in 2002, which he remained until 2007. From 2006 to 2010 he was again a member of the Second Chamber.

Van Geel is a cycling enthusiast and a member of the Roman Catholic Church .
