Pietro Delai

Pietro Delai (* around 1635 in Scaria; † April 16, 1695 in Bozen ) was an Italian builder of the Baroque period who worked in Tyrol .

Life

Pietro Delai belonged to a widespread family of builders, bricklayers, painters and plasterers who came from Scaria d'Intelvi, a place on Lake Como in Lombardy (originally d'Allio). It dominated church building from the middle of the 17th to the middle of the 18th century in South Tyrol .

Pietro was the son of Giaccomo il Giovane Delai and his wife Francesca; his brother was Andrea Delai, with whom he carried out some construction projects together. The family lived in Bolzano , where the father also died in 1675. Pietro became master bricklayer in 1661 and city architect of Bozen in 1677. He received citizenship there in 1685 and married Sabrina Stegerin in 1686, with whom he had nine children.
