Pietro Paolo Vasta
Pietro Paolo Vasta (born July 31, 1697 in Acireale , † November 28, 1760 ibid) was an Italian painter . He is considered to be one of the greatest artists of the late Sicilian Baroque school in the Val di Noto .
Life
He began as a student of Giacinto Platania (1647–1720) in Acireale, then went to Messina with the Maratta students Paolo and Antonio Filocamo . Then he went to Rome to Luigi Garzo . After the birth of his first son Alessandro Vasta (1724–1793), who later became an artist himself, he married Isabella Adami in 1726. He had seven children with her. In 1731 he returned to his native city of Acireale, where he became one of the most sought-after painters of his time during the reconstruction after the earthquake in Val di Noto in 1693.
His works are mainly in the churches of Acireale and the surrounding area.
