Giacinto Platania
Giacinto Platania (born October 13, 1612 in Acireale , † July 10, 1691 ibid) was an Italian painter .
Life
Platania was born to Antonio and Caterina Leonardi in a large middle-class family.
He received part of his artistic training from his father, who was a painter, and he received his school education from a father. Platania was the teacher of the painter Pietro Paolo Vasta .
Platania was a versatile personality, so he was involved in politics and tried during the devastating volcanic eruption of Mount Etna in 1699, together with Diego Pappalardo and Diego Musmeci, to divert the lava masses by building dams , an undertaking that failed.
Platania was buried at her own request in the Chiesa degli Angeli in Acireale, in which the picture Pala del Voto of him can be seen.

Platania painted oil paintings and frescoes . His motifs are mostly religious or relate to his homeland, with Mount Etna always being seen in the background. Occasionally he also painted facades , painting the facades of houses, alleys and streets with frescoes of saints .
His pictures can be found in many churches in eastern Sicily , his main works in the Cathedral of Acireale , in the Chiesa di Gesù and in the Zelantea Pinacoteca .
