Pietro Pavan

Pietro Cardinal Pavan (born August 30, 1903 in Treviso , Italy , † December 26, 1994 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Pietro Pavan studied in Rome and Padua the subjects philosophy , Catholic theology and economics . He was in all three subjects doctorate and received on 8 July 1928, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1933 to 1946 he taught at the seminary of Treviso. In 1946 he became ecclesiastical advisor to the Catholic Institute for Social Activities . From 1948 to 1969 he was a member of the faculty of the Pontifical Lateran University , which he headed as rector from 1969 to 1974 . On January 11, 1962, Pope John XXIII awarded him the honorary title of Apostolic Protonotary . He took part in the Second Vatican Council as an expert from 1962 to 1965 and was a collaborator with John XXIII. involved in the preparation of the important encyclical Pacem in Terris . In the following years, Pietro Pavan became one of the leading experts on social issues within the Catholic Church.

Pope John Paul II accepted him on May 25, 1985 as cardinal deacon with the title deaconry of San Francesco di Paola dei Calabresi in the college of cardinals . He was dispensed from receiving episcopal ordination for reasons of age .

Pietro Pavan died on December 26, 1994 in Rome and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery.
