Pigs on the Wing is a two-part song by the British rock band Pink Floyd , which appeared on their concept album Animals in 1977 and initiates and ends this. The two parts are 1:25 and 1:28 minutes long.

composition

The song is divided into two short parts, which form the opening and closing credits of the album. The song was written by Roger Waters and is said to have been a declaration of love to his new wife, Carolyne Christie. The sprawling, darkly misanthrope songs Dogs , Pigs and Sheep forms Pigs on the Wing a more serene contrast and concerns that camaraderie may be a way out of the misery verabscheuender attitude. According to Waters, Pigs on the wing had to be on the album to avoid outbursts of anger among the listener. An earlier version of the title was still marked by despondency and loneliness, the awkwardness of defending oneself against social oppression.

Musically the song is kept simple. It is sung by Roger Waters, accompanying himself with an acoustic guitar . Both parts have the same melody including the change in time (from 4/4 to 6/8) just before the end.

The publication on the 8-track cassette had a different recording sequence. Both parts of Pigs on the Wing were at the beginning of the album and were linked by a guitar solo. Rock guitarist Snowy White played the solo . In 1977 he toured live with Pink Floyd and recorded his solo in his 1996 compilation Goldtop: Groups & Sessions '74 - '94 .
