Pilosocereus piauhyensis is a species of plant in the genus Pilosocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet piauhyensis refers to the occurrence in the Brazilian state of Piaui (written Piauhy in the 19th century). Common names are "Facheiro" and "Rabo de Raposa".

Pilosocereus piauhyensis grows shrubby, is only branched at the base and reaches heights of 1.5 to 2.5 meters. The upright, shiny dark green shoots are weakly woody and have a diameter of 5 to 7.5 centimeters. There are 14 to 21 ribs. The translucent thorns are gold in color. The 5 to 9 central spines are ascending to protruding and 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters long. The 11 to 16 radiating radial spines are 3 to 8 millimeters long. A part of the shoots capable of flowering is not or not very well developed. The flowering areoles are located near the shoot tip. White to gray hair and flexible gold-colored bristles arise from them.
The gradually expanding flowers are 5.5 to 7.5 centimeters long and 2 to 4 centimeters in diameter. The depressed spherical fruits reach a diameter of 3.8 centimeters, tear open at the sides and contain a magenta-colored pulp.
Systematics, distribution and threat
Pilosocereus piauhyensis is distributed in the Brazilian states of Piauí , Rio Grande do Norte and possibly Ceará .
The first description as Cereus piauhyensis was published in 1908 by Robert Louis August Maximilian Gürke (1854-1911). Ronald Stewart Byles and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed them in the genus Pilosocereus in 1957 . A synonym is Pseudopilocereus piauhyensis (Gürke) Buxb.
Pilosocereus piauhyensis was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in 2002 as " Near Threatened (NT) , d". H. low risk, classified. In 2013 the species is known as " Least Concern (LC) ", i. H. listed as not endangered.
