Pilosocereus polygonus is a species of plant in the genus Pilosocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet polygonus means 'multi-ribbed'. Common names are "Bahama Dildo" and "Key Tree Cactus".

Pilosocereus polygonus grows shrubby or tree-shaped and reaches heights of 3 to 10 meters. The upright or ascending, bluish to blue-green shoots have a diameter of 5 to 10 centimeters. There are 5 to 13 narrow ribs with noticeable transverse furrows. The dense, spreading thorns are yellowish at first and turn gray later. They cannot be divided into central and radial spines. Part of the shoots capable of flowering is not pronounced. The flowering areoles are covered with dense, white wool.

The flowers are 5 to 6 centimeters long and 2.5 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The fruits are depressed spherical.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Pilosocereus polygonus is found in Florida , the Bahamas , Cuba , the Dominican Republic, and Haiti .

The first description as Cactus polygonus was published in 1783 by Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck . Ronald Stewart Byles and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed them in the genus Pilosocereus in 1957 . A synonym is Pilosocereus robinii (Lam.) Byles & GDRowley .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
