Distribution map of the genus Pinarocorys

Pinarocorys is a genus of larks . A German name has not yet been used for this genus. There are two species of this genus. Both species are classified by the IUCN as not endangered ( least concern ).

features

The two species in the genus Pinarocorys are medium to large larks. The beaks are stronger and of medium length. The nostrils are not covered with small feathers, as is the case with the lark genera Mirafra , Certhilauda and Alaemon . The wings are long and clearly pointed: the tenth (innermost) hand wing is small, but clearly visible. The rear claw is only slightly curved and about as long as the rear toe.

Both types are reminiscent of thrushes in their physique . The thrush lark can even be confused with the acacia thrush in its range .

species

There are two types. Subspecies are only recognized for the thrush lark:

  • Drossellerche ( Pinarocorys nigricans ) - ( Sundevall , 1850)
    • Pinarocorys nigricans nigricans - ( Sundevall , 1850) : breeding occurrence from the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the northwest of Zambia to the southwest of Tanzania.
    • Pinarocorys nigricans occidentis - Clancey , 1968 : breeding occurrences from the southwest of the Democratic Republic to the north of Angola
  • Rotbürzellerche ( Pinarocorys erythropygia ) - ( Strickland , 1852)

Way of life

Like all larks, the Pinarocorys are ground breeders. The diet consists of insects and seeds.
