The Pinapple Lake ( English for pineapple lake ) is an elongated and up to 70 m deep lake on the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located immediately north of the Sørsdal Glacier on the southern edge of the Vestfold Mountains . The ice cover on its surface is between 3 and 4 m thick.
Scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions found a can of pineapple juice here . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia took this as an opportunity to name it in 1984.
