Pinguicula potosiensis is a carnivorous plant belonging to the genus of the fatty herbs ( Pinguicula ), section Orcheosanthus . It was first described in 1989 by Franz Speta and Franz Fuchs.

description

The plant belongs to the tropical heterophyllous growth type and accordingly forms a summer and a winter rosette, both of which are down to earth. The root system consists of numerous white, thin and unbranched roots.

The loose summer rosette consists of 15 to 20, 8 to 8.5 centimeters long and up to 4 centimeters wide, oval-elongated leaves, with the leaf edges rolled up. If there is enough sunlight, the leaves take on a reddish to purple color.

In contrast, the densely hairy winter rosette is very small and compact and consists of 30 to 40 obovate leaves that are only up to 2 centimeters long and 6 to 9 millimeters wide and of a green-yellowish color.

A fully grown plant forms four to five long-stemmed, pink- red flowers , usually from the winter rosette. However, it cannot be ruled out that the plant will also bloom in summer.

distribution

The species is native to San Luis Potosi , Mexico . However, it can also be kept in culture in European latitudes without any problems.

Systematics

Since its first description is discussed, whether it is at pinguicula potosiensis a form of Pinguicula moranensis is already Speta and Fuchs had the resemblance of both species back. They differentiated Pinguicula potosiensis on the basis of the smaller winter rosette, the narrower lobes of the flower and the color of the flower and leaves of Pinguicula moranensis .
