The Pirengskoje Reservoir ( Russian Пиренгское водохранилище ) is a reservoir in the Murmansk Oblast in northwestern Russia .
At the outlet of the Pirenga from the Lower Pirenga Lake ( Нижняя Пиренга ) a barrier was built in 1938. As a result, the lakes Upper Pirenga ( Верхняя Пиренга , 88.7 km²), Kumushskaja Salma ( Кумужская Салма , 12.4 km²) and Lower Pirenga ( Нижняя Пиренга , 58.5 km²) were dammed and turned into a 227 large reservoir. The reservoir extends over a length of 58 km and has a maximum width of 8 km. The target is at 137 m. The average water depth is 13 m. The storage volume of the reservoir is around 3 km³. However, the water level can fluctuate by 5 m. The catchment area covers 4240 km².
The reservoir serves to regulate the water level of the downstream Imandra Lake. Its water is used to cool the Kola nuclear power plant and as a reservoir for the three hydropower plants along the Niwa .
