Pirmin Spiegel (* 1957 in Großfischlingen ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and development worker . Since 2012 he has been the general manager and chairman of the board of the diocesan aid organization Misereor .

Life

Pirmin Spiegel, who comes from a farming family in the Palatinate, studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Georgen in Frankfurt / Main and was ordained a priest on June 7, 1986 . Until 1990 he worked as chaplain and parish administrator in Kaiserslautern and as CAJ chaplain of the Speyer diocese .

After that he worked until 2000 in the Brazilian state of Maranhão in Lima Campos as pastor of three parishes with 67 parishes in three districts. Until 2003 he was released to train lay missionaries in Maranhão and beyond. From 2004 to 2010 Spiegel worked again in Germany as a pastor in the parish community Blieskastel-Lautzkirchen. In summer 2010 he returned to Brazil to work in various Latin American countries in the training and accompaniment of lay missionaries.

Since March 23, 2012 he has been the general manager and chairman of the board of the diocesan aid organization Misereor .

In October 2019 he was one of almost 300 participants in the Amazon Synod in the Vatican.

Honors

On December 19, 2012, Spiegel was received by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed papal chaplain ( monsignor ).

On March 11, 2017, he was awarded the Hans Rosenthal Prize. In a ceremony in Landau held Markus Schachter the eulogy.
