The Plätlinsee is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District southeast of Mirow and south of Neustrelitz in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The elongated lake is a maximum of 3.8 kilometers long and up to 700 meters wide. It is divided into a south and a north part by a narrow peninsula. In the northern part there is the 19 hectare large and largely wooded island of Hühnenwerder . Large parts of the lake shore are boggy and have a wide belt of reeds.
The water area is located entirely in the municipal area of Wustrow , the main town of which is Wustrow on the southwestern shore of the lake. There is also a transfer point for water hikers to the Klenzsee . Water hikers are only allowed to cross the lake within the concrete area in the direction of Schwaanhavel.
To the south, the Plätlinsee has a small tributary (Reeksgraben) to the Großer Pälitzsee . In the north, the Schwaanhavel leaves the lake.
The northern part of the lake and large parts of the western bank are together with the adjacent areas in the 319 hectare nature reserve north bank Plätinsee .
