The Schwaanhavel , also Schwanhavel or Schwanenhavel , is a small tributary about 3.5 kilometers long to the Havel near Wesenberg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It leaves the Plätlinsee in the north, meanders towards Wesenberg and flows into the old Havel, which here runs parallel to the Wesenberger Kammerkanal . The Havel flows into the canal a few meters further, around 700 m below the Wesenberg lock . The Schwaanhavel is a popular canoeing water and is closed to motor boats. It is only 3 to 5 m wide and usually less than a meter deep.

The name Schwaan should not come from the bird swan, but comes from Old Slavonic and means: živŭ = alive or zvati for to call . The Schwaanhavel should mean something like living river .
